Ugandan Minister Addresses FOCAC Meeting, Highlighting Cooperation and Uganda's Development
Uganda's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, delivered a statement at the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of the Follow-Up Actions of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Changsha, China. He was part of the representatives gathered to advance the implementation of the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit. At the opening ceremony, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi presented a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping, announcing measures to deepen China-Africa ties.

China-Africa Solidarity and Cooperation: Minister Wang emphasized the need for China and Africa to uphold solidarity and self-reliance, support each other, and advance modernization together. He proposed strengthening cooperation in key areas like green industries, e-commerce, science and technology, and artificial intelligence.
Zero-Tariff Treatment: President Xi announced China's policy of granting zero-tariff treatment for 100 percent of tariff lines to 53 African countries with diplomatic relations with China. This aims to facilitate greater access for exports from Africa's least developed countries to China.
Uganda's Development Gains: Hon. Odongo highlighted Uganda's achievements under FOCAC, including infrastructure development such as the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway and the Karuma and Isimba Hydropower Plants. He also mentioned FOCAC's support for concessional loans and grants in agriculture and social projects, crucial for Uganda's growth strategy.
Continued Cooperation: On the sidelines of the meeting, Hon. Odongo discussed further cooperation with Mr. Chen Xiaodong of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, exploring new areas for China to fund a
nd support Uganda's development plans.
